Ser Bronn of the Blackwater

House
no house by birth; Stokeworth by marriage
Titles
Ser Bronn of the Blackwater · Lord of Stokeworth

A sellsword who fought his way from hired blade to landed lord without ever once pretending the climb was about honor.

A Sword for Hire

Bronn, a jobbing sellsword of no house and less patience for chivalry, attached himself to Tyrion Lannister during his captivity among the mountain clans, correctly judging the dwarf a better investment than most highborn men in the vicinity — a wager that paid off handsomely once Tyrion needed a champion who could actually fight dirty.

He volunteered as Tyrion's champion in trial by combat at the Eyrie against Ser Vardis Egen, winning not through any tourney-ground swordsmanship but by exhausting a heavier, better-armored opponent on treacherous footing — the kind of ugly, practical victory the text seems to admire more than its knights ever admit to.

A Knighthood, and a Marriage

He fought at the Battle of the Blackwater in Tyrion's service, helping defend the wildfire caches and the city gates, and was knighted afterward for it — Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, a title he wears with the same amused detachment he brings to everything else.

When Tyrion needed a second champion for his murder trial, Bronn flatly declined rather than face Gregor Clegane, having by then been married off to Lollys Stokeworth by Cersei's design specifically to remove him from consideration — a match that, after Lady Tanda's death, made Bronn Lord of Stokeworth in fact if not quite in manner.
