House
Seaworth, self-made, of Flea Bottom

Alive, sailing the north's coasts on his king's business.

Davos Seaworth was born in the gutters of Flea Bottom and made his fortune the way men without fortunes usually must: smuggling, quietly and skillfully, under noses that paid him well not to notice. A single act of loyalty — running onions and fish through a siege line to a starving garrison — earned him both a knighthood and a lord's lasting trust, and cost him, at that same lord's insistence, the top joints of four fingers, since the law does not forgive a smuggler merely for being useful. That blunt exchange, service rewarded and punished in the same breath, defines Davos's whole relationship with the king he serves: fierce loyalty paired with the plainest advice at court, however unwelcome that advice proves. A maester allows that a Hand who counts his missing fingers as a badge of honor rather than a grievance is a rarer creature at any court than his low birth would suggest.
