Laenor Velaryon was Corlys and Rhaenys's only son, and as a small child was even put forward, in his mother's name, as a rival claimant to the Iron Throne at the Great Council of 101 AC — a bid the assembled lords rejected in favor of Prince Viserys, on grounds that would haunt the succession for a generation. He grew into a promising dragonrider on his mount Seasmoke and a soldier of real ability in the crown's wars against the Triarchy, but the marriage his father and Viserys I arranged for him — to his own cousin, Princess Rhaenyra — was plainly a match of dynasty rather than affection on either side, and both partners kept to their own preferences within it without much pretense otherwise.

Who is Laenor Velaryon?
The son of Corlys Velaryon and Princess Rhaenys, a dragonrider of Seasmoke and the first husband of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, though the marriage was one of politics rather than affection.
Is Laenor Velaryon alive?
No — the chronicle need only say that a duel at Driftmark in 120 AC, years before the war began, was his last; the particulars are treated in his veiled record.
