Lord of the Dreadfort

A bastard born of an act of lordly cruelty who grew up to specialize in exactly the same, and who flayed, hunted, and married his way to a legitimacy no honest deed ever earned him.

Born of Cruelty

Ramsay was conceived when Roose Bolton forced himself on a miller's wife already married to another man, an old and supposedly abandoned lordly right the North remembers by the name first night. Roose acknowledged him only after the boy, still a youth, murdered the miller and the miller's trueborn son to remove any rival to a legitimacy that had not yet been offered him — a return on investment Roose found, by his own cold accounting, impressive enough to reward.

A taste for hunting people, rather than game, with dogs and a knife emerged early and was never discouraged.

Winterfell's New Terror

After Theon Greyjoy's brief and bloody hold on Winterfell collapsed, Ramsay took both castle and captive by treachery, and spent the following months unmaking Theon into the creature Reek through torture so systematic that even his own father is shown to find it excessive. He was legitimized as a Bolton for services rendered during the war, murdered his father's newborn trueborn son and stepmother Walda to remove them as rivals to his inheritance, and forced a marriage between himself and 'Arya Stark' — in truth Jeyne Poole, presented in her place — to cement a Bolton claim on the North that blood alone would not grant him.
