Lorath sits at the northern edge of the Free Cities' reach, its harbor town wrapped in a fog that a maester's sources describe as near-permanent, and its fields given more to goats and hardy grain than to the vineyards and orchards of its sunnier sisters. It was once governed by three ceremonial princes — of the harvest, the fisheries, and the streets — chosen by their respective constituencies for life, though the office has long since become ornamental.
Lorath
The least of the Nine, and content to stay that way

The smallest and coldest of the Free Cities, damp with sea-fog and so seldom mentioned that travelers sometimes forget to count it among the Nine at all.
Trade, faith, and rule
Actual rule in Lorath now belongs to a council of magisters drawn from its noble houses, priesthoods, and merchant families, much as in the larger Free Cities, save that Lorath's councils have rather less to squabble over. Lorathi wool and mutton reach Pentoshi and Braavosi markets, but the city otherwise keeps its own counsel, and keeps it quietly.
Lorath in the novels
This carries the place's part in the published novels. Read on only if you do not fear to know.
These partings name deaths, endings, and roads not yet ridden in the books. Unveil them only if both roads are known to you — or if you do not fear to know.
