A river-port town on the Bay of Crabs named, so the singers insist, for the pool where Florian the Fool first spied Jonquil bathing with her sisters — a legend the town has never once tired of retelling to visitors who did not ask.
House Mooton has held Maidenpool since long before the Andals arrived, and the town has made its living from much the same trade ever since: fish, river traffic on the upper Bay of Crabs, and the pilgrims and travelers who come to see Jonquil's Pool for themselves and, more often than not, leave mildly underwhelmed. The Mootons' loyalty has run mostly to whoever holds Riverrun, which has occasionally put them on the losing side of riverland politics without much say in the matter.
The town's fortunes have otherwise followed the riverlands' broader history of being fought over by everyone passing through — Andal, ironborn, and Targaryen armies among them — with the Mootons keeping their seat through most of it by the old riverland art of surrendering promptly and rebuilding quietly.
